GRAIN - CONTROLLED CROPS

The controlled grain crops under the Agronomic Board’s jurisdiction are white maize and products thereof, wheat and products thereof and, in due course, mahangu and products thereof.

In terms of the Agronomic Industry Act, producers (this will apply to mahangu in due course) who annually produce and market more than 5 tons of one or more controlled grain crops, must be registered with the Agronomic Board in the same way wheat, white maize and Mahangu processors must also be registered with the Board.

White maize, wheat and Mahangu processors and producers (this will apply to mahangu producers in due course) who annually produce, market or process more than five tons of one or more controlled grain crops, must upon application, register with the Board as stipulated in General Notice No 33 of 1986 and in section 10(j) of the Agronomic Industry.

  Currently, 271 producers are registered and 27 processors were registered with the Agronomic Board of which:





16 are white maize millers
4 are wheat millers
2 are yellow maize millers
3 processors mill both yellow maize and white maize
